This is a historical novel loosely based on the life of my Grandparents, Joe and Lena Ellis.
I joined a romance writing group and had to come up with something acceptable to me. Christian or Hallmark style.
Previously, I had mostly written my horseback riding stories.
Grandma used to tell me lots of stories about her childhood and early life. I took it down in shorthand and typed
it out. Now I include it in the story, but there is a lot that is unknown. Sooooo, I just make it up!
It is probably 10% truth and 90% fiction. I try to use actual dates and incidents, if they are know or can be determined.
The first line is true and so is the information about smallpox hitting her family. She said he kept after and wouldn't
leave her alone. A cousin told me that Grandma had told her that the first time he ever saw Grandma she had on a yellow
dress and he said, "That's the girl for me."
It has been interesting to try to include their basic personalities and way of speaking. It is written in Hallmark
style, clean and uplifting.
Some of my friends are kind enough to read it and offer comments and suggestions or corrections. This is the easiest
way for them to read it. It is only half done and there are about 22 Chapters.
Grandpa lived to be 68 and Grandma lived to 90. There will probably need to be another book. This one should
get them to Bear Creek. Next will about raising their family and life together.
Maybe another one about my parents. And then Ed and me. Mercy, there doesn't seem to be an end to it.
I hope you enjoy it. It has been a delight and a surprise to write.
